CST 349 / 300 Week 2

Part 1: Review and Reflect Learning Strategy
The top three items I am good at are developing and revising a schedule, taking notes, and preparing an outline and writing the paper. I have always thrived using a calendar and planner to create a daily schedule for myself and blocking out a time to study. I have always made it a priority to take good notes both while I am reading and/or listening to a lecture. It is difficult for me to completely digest everything all at once which makes the notes very helpful when studying. I used to hate writing essays because I would never know how to start. After I learned how to create an outline, it came a lot more natural and writing essays were not as difficult because the framework of the essay was already created.
The top three areas I feel I am weak in are outlining textbooks, essay examinations, and using correct punctuation and grammar. Outlining textbooks has never really helped me, I end up highlighting everything or nothing and it didn’t really help with my studying. Essay examinations were always a lot of pressure for me because there wouldn’t be enough space and/or time to create an outline and gather thoughts before forming it into an essay. Punctuation and grammar has also been a weak area where I have always relied on Microsoft Word to make the corrections for me.

Part 2: Preview Time Management Skills

Part 3: Project Management Basics
The Introduction to Project Management video goes over what a project is, projects and business strategies, project manager roles, project management history, and the lifecycle of a project. A project is an activity that is carried out from a derived idea to create a product or service. Defining the time, goal and cost are important details with project planning and execution. One of the project manager roles is being accountable and having the right skills.a Stakeholders are key players in project management.

The Work Breakdown Structure video shows how to create one. This revolves all around deliverables. The first level is the key line, categories, or work streams. The second level is major deliverable and the third level is sub-deliverables. Every item on the WBS will have and index numbering. You can create a tree or a dictionary. The dictionary would have a lot more details. Some good practices are having good labels, no overlaps, and WBS could evolve through the planning of the project.

The Gantt Chart video explains what a Gantt chart is. A Gantt chart plots bars on a timeline of how activities/tasks take place. This helps identify where we are in a project and if we are on track. Keys with symbols are very important.

Part 4: Check Out Previous Capstones
US Naval Research Laboratory
The project was well done and well presented. The slides were clear and concise and the presentation was well presented by the team. It would be interesting to see a mock security scan and how the code is identified.

dKOMP
This project was well done and was a great idea. Employee engagement surveys are done in several companies. Having a tool like this would help align the workforce in the right place to be more efficient and provide a higher quality product.

National AI Campus
This project was well done with a lot of graphics to catch the audiences attention. More background on the project would be good to help understand the content.

Part 5: Summary of Week
This week was a large focus on project management which I really enjoy as my goal is to become a Project Manager. We watched a video on the 2026 Technology Trends based on the real-world things going on, bringing AI into the world. We also read about the trends in computing and software development. With our teams we focused on teamwork and communication. In addition, as a group we were able to practice this by creating a team resume. In CST 300, we learned about how reference sources in APA.

  1. Hey Linda! I think you did a very great job with your time management skills chart. I think it's good that you make time out of your day to not only take care of your business, but to take care of your daughter, as well as your physical health by going to the gym and doing pilates. It's also great that you take time through your busy work week to check in with canvas so you can stay on top of your assignments.

  2. Hi Linda, I think your time management planner was very detailed. I like how you included checking canvas at the start of our module week, to ensure you're up to date on new assignments that will be due the following Tuesday. Unfortunately in my use case, I am not as organized and able to stick to a consistent agenda, so instead I elected to create an assignment board for me and my groupmates to list assignments for the week that we can check off. That way we can briefly look at what assignments we have remaining, as well as be able to offer help to our groupmates if there is something they are struggling on. I don't have any suggestions on how to change your agenda, as it's clear you're very busy throughout the week which is why your coursework is very condensed from Thursday to Saturday. Great job overall!

  4. Hello Linda, I like how your schedule is consistent and thorough. The way you find hours between such a busy schedule for schoolwork is impressive. Staying on top of checking the weekly modules on Wednesdays and having a long day to finish everything on Saturdays is well-planned. Well done!

  5. Hey Linda, your weekly activity log is incredibly detailed and it really shows that you're maximizing your time to complete coursework whenever you have the time. It's nice that you included when you would check Canvas, as we were suggested to by our professors.
